Limb Care Foundation Revolutionizes Limb Health with Multidisciplinary Approach

Limb Care Foundation, a leading non-profit organization dedicated to improving limb health and quality of life, is proud to announce its groundbreaking multidisciplinary approach to limb care. By integrating podiatry, orthotics/prosthetics, and physical therapy, the foundation aims to revolutionize the field and provide comprehensive support to individuals with limb-related challenges.

With a focus on education, advocacy, and outreach, the Limb Care Foundation aims to enhance the well-being and functionality of individuals with limb loss and limb deficiencies. The foundation recognizes the importance of a holistic approach that addresses the diverse needs of patients, empowering them to lead fulfilling lives.

Leveraging the expertise of podiatrists, orthotics/prosthetics specialists, and physical therapists, Limb Care Foundation ensures that patients receive comprehensive care throughout their journey. By combining these disciplines, the foundation takes a significant step towards optimizing treatment outcomes and promoting independence for individuals with limb-related conditions.

“The original idea of the organization was to provide that kind of assistance as well as increasing the population’s awareness of amputees and limb loss and limb difference, and then we expanded from there.” said Lashauna Smedley, International Liaison of the Limb Care Foundation. “Now we’re a global organization and the mission is expanded as well to be an organization that provides the advocacy and the education, the financial assistance to us-based patients, the education, the scholarships for us-based students. We’ve also branched out and started providing donations for amputees abroad as well as mobility equipment and fabrication equipment for partner organizations abroad.”

One of the key initiatives of Limb Care Foundation is the Prosthetic Summer Camp, which offers a unique opportunity for high school and middle school students to explore the field of limb prosthetics and other amputee related professions. Through hands-on activities, participants will learn about the latest surgical procedures for amputees and gain insights into advancements in commercial prosthetics. The camp also provides a platform for students to interact with amputees, prosthetists, therapists, and other healthcare providers, allowing them to gain invaluable knowledge and first-hand experiences.

“A big part of our organization is education, so we are offering a 100% free summer camp for middle and high school students to come to UC Davis Health to learn from prosthetists, occupational and physical therapists, and engineers through engaging presentations and hands-on activities.” added Laduan Smedley, Jr., CPO. “Definitely looking forward to seeing lots of young, energetic faces. Our capacity is for 120 students, so we are hoping for a full house.”

The Prosthetic Summer Camp will take place on July 14, 2023, at UC Davis Health located at 4610 X St, Sacramento, CA 95817. The event will run from 8:30am to 4pm, and lunch will be provided.

Limb Care Foundation’s commitment to improving limb health extends beyond its initiatives. The foundation actively engages in advocacy efforts, raising awareness about the challenges faced by individuals with limb conditions and advocating for their rights and accessibility to quality care. By fostering partnerships with other organizations and professionals in the field, Limb Care Foundation strives to create a supportive network that addresses the diverse needs of individuals with limb-related challenges.
