Inspiring Keynote Speaker to Address Prosthetic Summer Camp 2023
The Limb Care Foundation is delighted to announce the participation of an exceptional keynote speaker at the upcoming Prosthetic Summer Camp 2023. The inaugural event, aimed at empowering students pursuing healthcare careers, will feature an inspiring address by Lou Figueroa, a train accident survivor and the CEO of Inspired Balance. Figueroa’s remarkable journey of resilience and triumph will serve as a source of inspiration for all camp participants.
The Prosthetic Summer Camp, organized by the Limb Care Foundation, provides a unique platform for students to explore various healthcare professions, including physical therapy, occupational therapy, prosthetics, orthotics, and podiatry. This immersive experience is designed to inspire and equip the next generation of healthcare providers with the knowledge and skills necessary for success in the field.
As part of the camp’s agenda, keynote speaker Lou Figueroa will share his extraordinary story of overcoming adversity and achieving personal and professional growth after a life-altering train accident. Their journey of resilience, determination, and ultimate triumph will undoubtedly leave a lasting impact on the camp participants, igniting their own aspirations and instilling a sense of hope.
As the CEO of Inspired Balance, Lou Figueroa brings a wealth of experience in motivating individuals to overcome challenges and achieve personal and professional growth. Through his address, Figueroa will share how tragic events can lead to depression and the inability to cope with loss. Attendees will hear Lou’s amazing story of survival and his transformation from a wheelchair to walking again. This 45-minute presentation highlights Lou’s recovery and focuses on collaborative care.

“Limb care health in general is a very small field. As we age longer, there’s a greater need for people in this profession to be trained on how to see a patient who has these needs, so supporting this event will support the future generation of young Orthotists and Prosthetists and other people in the health field that can hopefully help people for years moving forward,“ said Laduan Smedley, President of Limb Care Foundation.
He continues, “With amputations and diabetes the way it is the amputation rate is always going up. In the field as a whole there’s only a couple thousand orthotists and prosthetists in the whole nation. It’s a very, very, very small field, so we really need to inspire the future Generations so that we can continue to support people.”
